FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Over the years we've been asked allot of questions
and we though instead of constantly repeating ourselves it would be a good idea
if we had a place to put the answers to some of those questions, so here it is,
and although there's new questions still popping up everyday we will try to put
the answers to them as they come up.
I would also like to add the most of these
questions are being answered by the founder of this breed herself, Amy Krogman
1) Q: What is the Shorty Bull lifespan:
A:
lifespan is about 12 years. Of
course, with good care, you just never know!

2) Q:
Exactly, what is a Shortybull?
A: Shortybull is a small breed bulldog. Recognized
as a independent breed by the BBCR and ABKC

3) Q: Is it a Frenchie with it's
ears cropped? Is it AKC?
A:
There
are MANY breeds not recognized by the AKC. Although they
are among the largest AMERICAN pedigree systems, they do
not recognize all breeds in existence.

How much do they cost?
A:
Like all breeds, they will vary on average, you
can expect a price range of 1500.00 – 2500.00

5) Q:
What is the mix of dogs used to create the Shorty?
A:
The Shortybull is a composite of five (5) bull
breeds, each chosen for a particular trait/quality.
There is no Boston terrier or pug in the
shortybull.

6) Q: What colors do
they come in?
A:
Shortybulls are recognized in all
colors with the exception of black and tan, and merle.

How big do they get?
A:
Shortybulls by standard will be 20 – 40 pounds
and under 15 inches.

8) Q: What type of
guarantee does a Shorty Bull come with?
A:
That varies by breeder. We
all use our own guarantees.

9) Q:
How do I find a breeder?
A: You can google them on the web and find a breeder but
be careful, since these dogs been getting so much
attention there has been allot of breeders popping up
faulty advertising there mixes as Shortybulls. When
looking for a breeder make sure to ask plenty of
questions and ask if there dogs are BBCR and ABKC
registered.

10) Q: Can I go to a breeders
house and pick out the puppy I want?
A:
Most breeders are happy to let you
come and pick out your pup.

Can I get one in a pet store?
A: NO!

12) Q: How come so
many of them are black or black brindle?
A:
Black is a dominant color...

13) Q:
Why do you crop the tails and ears?
A:
Nearly all Shortybulls are born with naturally
short tails, ears are cropped to establish a particular
look and give consistency of appearance in the breed.

14) Q:
Can I get one without cropped ears?
That does vary by breeder. We
have our ears done at our vets at 4 – 5 weeks old. You
would have to make special arrangements prior to this
and have a clear understanding the breed only allows for
cropped or drop ears – dogs will erect, rose etc ears
are not allowed to be shown and are not promoted on
message boards/websites.

Can I get one with a natural tail?
A:
Most of them come with natural
tails.

What is the average litter for

A:
between 6-8 although we have had as
much as 11, it depends on the individual dog.

Can they swim?
A: Yes, however, I would never allow a dog to
swim without supervision.

Do they make noise all the time when they breath like a
French or English?
A:
No, they are much cleaning breathing than
true bracechepalic breeds.

Do they snore?
A: Yes, some do!

Do they get sick allot?
A: Depends on the dog.

How likely are they to bite?
A: NO

Will they get along with my cats?
A: Yes they actually do well with other animals
when raised together or introduced properly.

Will they get along with my
goats/chickens/ducks/geese/cows/sheep?
A:
Again, if raised around them or introduced
properly, they are very social with other animals.

Do they like kids?
A: ABSOLUTELY!! They LOVE
children! But just like with any breed you should never
leave a young child unsupervised with any animal.

Can I take a Shorty when I go running?
A:
With proper conditioning and consideration to
the conditions (weather, terrain) your Shorty may be
conditioned to enjoy a long run! They
do have small legs and have to work hard to match the
stride of a large dog or person!

27) Q: How trainable is a Shorty?
A: Shortybulls are generally easy and willing
to train.

How hard is it to housebreak a Shorty?
A: As with any breed, you must establish a
schedule and stick to it, they are no harder than any
other breed.

Do I have to crate my Shorty?
A: I recommend using a crate for the dogs
safety and security, as well as it being a valuable tool
when housebreaking but, you can make the choice that is
best for your situation.

Are they chewers?
A:
No, the average Shortybull enjoys chew toys but don’t
tend to be as destructive as some other breeds. This
does not however mean none will eat your shoe, phone,
remote or other things!

31) Q:
What do you feed this kind of dog?
A: We recommend a good
quality dry food. This will help keep
their teeth in good shape, produce a
minimal amount of excrement for you to clean up, keep
the coat in good shape and provide your Shorty a healthy
diet.

32) Q:
How much should I feed my Shorty?
A: As with any other breed this varies with
each dog. A healthy adult in good body condition needs
no more than one cup of food daily.

How often do they need a bath?
A: I would recommend a monthly bath unless your
little friend finds something roll in!

34) Q:
Do they need to see a groomer for anything?
A: They should have nails trimmed and ears
cleaned you may want to use a groomer for that unless
you are comfortable to do those things yourself.

35) Q:
I want a house dog that will protect my family and
stuff. Will a Shorty do that?
A: A Shortybull is a alert and aware little
dog, they will offer a nice “warning” to the family of
anything out of the ordinary but they are not a guard
dog.

36) Q: I'm not in
good health and can't take a dog for long walks. Would a
Shorty be ok if I just take it outside to do it's
business?
A: Shortybulls are remarkably adaptable, you
will find your Shorty will readily take up the activity
level of your family.

37) Q:
I live in an apartment and there's no where for a dog to
run around and play. Is that okay for a Shorty?
A: You will want to find somewhere for your
Shorty to have occasionally run and play time but, they
will do fine with apartment living.

Can I
take a Shorty to the Nursing Home to cheer up the old
folks there?
A: Your Shortybull will bring many laughs and
love to the residents!
